Pic-A-Week, Episode 4

I’ve been extremely busy lately preparing for the arrival of the newest addition to my family.  She will be here any day now, so it's been quite hectic around my house, to say the least!

Of course I’ve managed to squeeze a few photo shoots in since my last update, and because I’ve been extremely delinquent in updating my blog, I’d like to use this post to sort of play “catch up”.

You'll notice several maternity shots below, which collectively represent a fairly groundbreaking step for me, since I've never actually done maternity photography before.  And as you'll see in the very last shot, I took full advantage of the fact that I had not one but TWO mommies-to-be at my studio on the same day!  How often does THAT happen?

Anyway, enjoy, and please share your comments/reactions below.  I absolutely *love* hearing your feedback!

LOVE the image of the little boy . . . there's just something so wonderful that happens when you catch a child looking up at you . . . their eyes just sparkle, and I love that. Also the high key (is it high-key? anyway, the lighter one) image of your wife with the man's dress shirt on is so beautiful. Lovely images. Thanks so much for sharing!

Hi Marla!

That was definitely a lucky moment...sometimes you just have to stand there snapping away and hope for things to work out that way. Even though I prompted the child to put his hands on mommy's belly, it was sheer luck that I was able to capture the expression as well.

And yes, the maternity shot in front of the blinds would be considered high key. To get it, I put my camera into manual mode and gradually slowed down the shutter speed to let more and more light in. When I got the nice, soft, glowy effect I was looking for, I knew I had it.

Thanks as always for your comment! =)

Dear Russ,
Would you agree that I use one of your pics for a non-profit catholic event in Brussels Belgium ? The theme of the month is the gift of the Holy Spirit that allows us to see God as a tender Father, I think your photograph is perfect for this! please let me know if you would agree, we print 100 flyers and distribute to the attendees in Church, we may publish in fcbk page, of course we will mention your credits, just let me know if there is a fee to pay for this. - Daniel Esquivel
